So, moving right along here and such. After all the last stuff done, it was time to hit those controls. I am ready to put on my new grips and want that are cleaned up. I started on the throttle side. I wanted to check the state of the throttle cables and clean the controls out. I started by removing the throttle tube...Once removed I took it apart and checked the cables. They were fine, although there was a couple of kinks in the housing. It'll last another season. I lubed them up with some graphite and put it back together. No pictures of that part...

Then I removed the control set and cleaned everything out.

Yup, that needs tending to.

A little contact cleaner and its all good again

Then I removed the brake lever and cleaned that all up...again no pictures, I was just trying to speed through this part.

Once cleaned up, I put everything back on the bars.

Before doing the other side, I reassembled my front side panels. There is a rear panel bolted onto the outside panel. First I checked that repair I did. It had cured for a couple of days. I was surprised to find out that the repair seemed really solid. I don't know if it will last long term, but it's better than it was at least...

Panel back together...

From there I moved onto reinstalling the headlight and grill. That's all very straight forward stuff. Plug the headlight set back into the wire harness and then screw it back into place...same with the grill.

The bike is smiling again...cool

Then it was onto the rear side panels and taillight assembly. Taillight first. That just slides into place.

A shot of Corrosion X on the connectors and then they go together.

Then both side panels go on.

Then, with a few bolts, the front fender went on

Finally, it was time for the left hand controls.

I removed the clutch perch and cleaned it off. The housing coating is cracking and will need to be changed at some point, but should last another season.

Then it was onto the left hand control set...Yeah, they are dirty

Sorted

Then it all went back together and I used some contact cement to re-glue the heated grip element back on and taped it in place overnight.

I decided to sort out my fuel tanks at this point. I had ordered new filler gaskets and wated to clean them up as well as putting a new fuel line on the fuel pump. First the fuel line. I used a new piece of tubing and transferred the fitting over

Then I fitted it to the fuel pump with a new single use clamp.

That was done, so it was onto the filler caps.

That's nasty

You remove 4 bolts and the entire cap lifts right out. There is a good bit of sand there. Gotta keep that out of the tank.

I snuck into the house and cleaned the caps in the sink...I think I got away with it...

Once cleaned up, I took care of the sand and dirt in the tank

Then it was time to install the new gaskets and reinstall the filter cap.

That's better...

Time for the other side...I did everything one more time

That'll do pig

Well now...where does that put me? It's starting to look like a real bike again...

Anyhow, that pretty much catches me up until today. Hard to believe, but yes, it's true. I have the throttle bodies to do next, the grips and chain and then it will be time to add all the fluids. Oil, coolant and hopefully fuel. Doesn't sound like a lot, but there is a big bump in the road. To do the coolant, I have to raise the front wheel at least 40 inches off the ground to purge the air from the system. I will be getting a hold of an engine hoist. Probably a Harbor Freight one, since they are super cheap. That way I will hopefully keep it from falling on me as I do the job. I also had to order a set of hand guards. My older guards won't fit quite right. I keep telling myself I will be finished in two weeks, but this time, maybe I will be. I did a big job today before writing this up, so I have one more blog post to do before I am truly caught up.
